Sadly, this isn't working for me. Seth is a lovely character and I wanted to love his story, but everyone is so nice, considerate and positive and every dialogue is so meaningful that it doesn't feel natural or real to me. I can enjoy sweet and fluffy stories, but this one gives me anxiety with all the tiptoeing around Seth and trying to always say and do the right thing.

While I loved the MCs, I wish the sweetness had been toned down just a bit. There's essentially no angst in this story except for one disagreement the men have toward the end, and even that is resolved quickly and reasonably.
On the one hand, I applaud the authors for not manufacturing unnecessary drama; on the other, the MCs read much younger than their 21 and 24 years.
Fortunately, there's enough steam in the story to balance the sweetness. Seth is a complete virgin, while Jake is new to

I questioned why the two were using condoms six months into a committed relationship when Seth had never had another sexual partner, and Jake hadn't had one for, it was hinted at, months prior to meeting Seth. While I know some couples simply prefer condoms, this wasn't explained in any way and made me think the two had trust issues, which wasn't consistent with how the relationship was portrayed in the story (as trusting and long-term).
Jake's mom was amazing, but Seth's mom's change of heart was unearned.
Despite these niggles, I enjoyed Pretty Sweet. It was a quick read for me, and I liked seeing Jesse and Dane again. Skylar's story is next. Boys who wear makeup are so much fun!

Seth loves to wear make-up and volunteers at an assised living facility where he plays the piano and does people's make-up. He didn't come from the nicest home, so when he befriends a woman who treats him like he's her son, Seth couldn't be happier.
When Bonnie invites him over to dinner, Seth meets her son, Jake. Jake and Seth immediately hit it off and strike up a friendship.
It's not long before Seth realizes he is slowly falling in love with Jake. But Jake is straight, so he knows it can never happen.
And even though Jake might look at Seth like he wants to be more than friends, Seth can't have his heart broken like that....
I really liked both Seth and Jake. Jake was overprotective and sweet, and Seth was shy and simply adorable.
Seth had a bad experience in his past, so he was careful with relationships. And Jake never thought he'd ever be with another man. I loved that Seth was a real virgin and Jake a gay virgin, so they had to work up to the sexy times. I always love that in books. That there has to be some trust before anything happens. It always makes the sexy times that much more emotional.
I really liked this and I might even go back to read the first book, which I skipped.

I think it is finally time for me to bid adieu to both of these authors. While I have read more from Riley Hart than Christina Lee, neither author has ranked higher than a 3-star read for me, with a lot of 1 stars and a lot of DNFs.I had found myself a bit intrigued by Seth in the first book, but that didn't translate to this book. I found this tedious to read. I don't need to be told what you ordered at a restaurant, what you made for lunch, what your clothes look like, the colour of your makeup, time and time again. I ended up skimming a lot of this, especially near the end.
I do think one of the issues is that while I am getting older, the characters in these authors books (particularly Riley Hart) are getting younger. I just find characters in their early 20s all acting like they have all their shit together and know what they want from life and who they are going to spend the rest of their life with gets a big eye roll from me. I didn't know anything when I was in my early 20s, and in my early 30s, I don't know a whole lot more and I know many people my age would say the same.

And not to say that these two were boring, but it was more how the authors didn't have them do much that could be boring, if that makes sense? Because I found these two adorable and sweet and and lovely together...but also, i guess...there wasn't much conflict between them? It was like they were always so perfect with each other.
Also, when there was was a "conflict" at 87% it was kinda ridiculous and over with quickly and smoothed over pretty easily - which also made it feel wildly unnecessary and just put in there for some slight drama to make this not all fluff.
Which, again, I don't always dislike. I actually enjoyed the fluffy moments between these two, the sweet moments, which is why I decided to round up with this. I didn't feel like it would be fair for me to round this down to 3 stars when I did enjoy these two together so much and their adorableness.
But the lack of a real conflict between the two just made this drag for me. At least with the first book, Dane and Jesse didn't like each other much at first. With this, though? These two liked each other right away, and even when there could be conflict, what with Jake just coming to terms with his bisexuality and his overprotectiveness (born out of a very understandable reason), it ends up not being too much of a big deal.
When Jake gets a little uncomfortable when he's first coming out, Seth is super understanding of it all - which is great, but again, doesn't lend itself to much conflict - and then Jake becomes comfortable with things fairly quickly, so that isn't dragged out that long.
Every instance where there felt like there could be some tension, some conflict, was handled pretty easily and well by everyone, so there wasn't a whole lot going on and so it dragged.
But did I enjoyed these two together? Yes, I very much did. And they were adorable and sweet together and Jake was exactly what Seth needed. I just wish, even with Seth's hangups around sex, that that could have ended up being a bigger issue than it turned out to be.
Like I adored these two together, but even the lack of conflict in their relationship, aside from the almost zero plot, is what made me give this 3.5 stars. This could have been so much better if all the plot points that had potential to turn into more conflict had actually turned into conflict.
But this was still good and fun and sweet, hence my rounding up. But a solid 3.5 stars for me. A book that is of regular book length shouldn't take me 6 days to finish, is all I'm saying.

There were quite a lot of overly sentimental moments and teenage like dialogue.

Seth is the adorable, cuddly roommate from Pretty Perfect who would wake up from nightmares and huddle into Jesse's bed. He is the sensitive sort, innocent-like. A negative past experience and a controlling mother has compounded to create a timidity and reluctance to be himself.
Jake is equally sweet. A boy that became a man too soon but still retained his youthful mentality. He has a savior-complex and a nurturer element to his personality. He's thoughtful, caring and sweet. With a tendency to be overly protective.
Truly both of these
There is a duo first time experience happening.
Slow and steady exploration.
Some comfort/healing.
Personal Growth/Self discovery.
I liked it, it had its moments.
I remember being completely in love with Pretty Perfect and being excited for this series, Pretty Sweet didn't quite live up to my expectations. Regardless, I still liked it enough and look forward to the next book, fingers crossed for Skylar's story.

Awww, so happy Seth found himself a great guy! I absolutely adored him in the first book of this series, so I was looking forward to his story.Overall, I did really enjoy this. This book did read as very...young? Which makes sense, since Seth is only 21 and Jake is only a couple years older than him. But there was a lot of "oh my gods" and "I like you" and these two felt just very young. However, at the same time Jake could have been 30 for all the responsibilities and duties he took on, so yeah. Might not be a problem for most people, but the ages and dynamics did kinda throw me off?

So I binge read this. Sure, I fell asleep after being awake for 20 hours straight, but I kept reading while at work (don't judge me), so I'm considering this binge-reading.I loved it. And now I'll say why.
Seth, as a 21-year-old virgin (while I don't feel this is noteworthy, it is what it is) living far from home, on his own, has the financial backing of his father's trust fund for him. But still very much controlled by his mother. He is suffocating from her emotional chains, but he is suffocating even more living with the ghosts of his trauma and insecurities.
Jake is probably a little older than Seth, living with his mother after basically saving her when they ran away from his abusive father. His mom is pretty freakin' awesome and she is the one to introduce Seth to him, after bonding with him at the senior club where they both work/volunteer. Jake has a savior complex. He's extremely protective of those he loves (understandable), the first of them is his mother, but Set has became a fast second.
The story progresses with not many surprises, but still every little think felt carefully thought of and real. I don't identify as LGBTQ+, but the story is so well written, I felt them, their struggles, their emotions and their love.
While there is reference to homophobia, it is understated and quickly set straight, and it's understandable because in my opinion this is a pure love story of two men with a family history that held them back from progressing in their personal lives. Those two men, Jake and Seth, each have their own extremely valid and unfortunately very common reasons to live, feel and act the way they do.
However I loooooved how they fed off of each other and felt strong enough to stand on their own. I loved how they each grew and learned to accept their faults. I loved how simply they loved.
I can't wait for Skylar's story, and will forever be a huge fan of this writing duo. They're magic.

Well this story certainly lived up to its title and was pure sweet throughout, everyone was just so nice and so many fluffy moments. Its adorable and full of comfort from start to finish, with two lovely mcs!I was interested to read Seths story since the last book and i fell in love with him completely here. He has so much development and learn about his past here, he grows so much in this story as finally able step out of his shell. With everyones support he starts to go for what he wants and not just whats expected of him, by the end he really stands up for himself and i loved it.
Jake stole my heart from his first scene and he goes through a lot of progress here too, with being over protective due to his own past and realising he needs to learn not to always be quick to jump into action. I really enjoyed seeing him move forward.
Jake and Seth compliment each other beautifully, both of them are rather new to relationships and i enjoyed the slow burn of their feelings. The relationship building and their interactions, especially at the start with the blushing and stumbling between them.
Side cast were incredible especially Jakes mum Bonnie who was wonderful, made for some entertaining scenes and i love carpet picnics. Oh of course i enjoyed seeing more of Jesse and Dane too, just as much fun as last time. The scenes at the bar are amazing, with the piano and singing. The outfits and make up, i love the descriptions.
Overall an enjoyable and easy lighthearted read, with a happy ending of course! I look forward to Skylars story next.

Terrific talks, playing games and getting to know each other is fun for each man. We learn their insecurities and strengths, the deepest of thoughts, and the developing attraction, too. Seth's Mom is controlling and unfeeling. Later on it's first times with a man for Jake, (and Seth) but it's only Seth that gives him these thrilling new emotions and reactions. GFY.
Jake respects all of Seth 's wishes; Seth can be safe with Jake, not afraid like he was with the guy from his past. Each man is exploring for the first time and both are having great sexy times.
We see Seth stretch his wings, as Jake's Mom does, too. It's a lovely story of being unafraid, stepping out of your bubble, and grabbing a good thing when you see it.

When I say this book was ADORABLE I mean it. It was the sweetest thing ever. Truth being told, I'm having a hard time lately committing to a whole length novel yet once I started this one I couldn't put it down and I was reminded how happy I get when I immerse myself in a beautiful heartfelt book. Jake and Seth's story was vulnerable and tender. they were both exploring parts of themselves they haven't before and that's without mentioning the sexual part that was rather new to both of them.We've met Seth in the previous installment. He is Jesse's best friend. They used to live together in Seth's apartment before Jesse found his own HEA with Dane (If you haven't read "Pretty Perfect" it's simply a MUST). Jake has lived a rather sheltered life. He comes from a wealthy family but a cold one. It used to be different when his father was alive, but after his death his mother became WAY too controlling, trying to build a perfect life for her only son, not seeing for a second it's never what he wanted for himself. He didn't know how to stand up to her, how to pursue his real interests which is a big part of the reason he has left home to study (what she wants - and he dislikes), in the university his father went to, and more importantly far from home.
Living with Jesse he realized a lot about himself, what he enjoys doing - playing the piano, putting makeup o himself but also on others and dreaming of becoming a professional makeup artist. As he isn't lacking financially he is able to do both in the assisted living facility he volunteers at. The residents love him and he enjoys spending time with them. He has also found a friend in one of the workers there - Bonnie who become in a way more than just a friend, a sort of a mother figure he wishes his own could be - loving and compassionate.
Jake on the other hand, had a difficult childhood and upbringing. He LOVES his mother and would do right around anything and everything for her, but he couldn't stop his father from mistreating her. There were too many times he wished he could save her and couldn't. When he was old enough, he made the step of taking her away from her abusive partner and together they built a different present and future for themselves. Everything he and his mother shared had brought them closer together but it also made Jake feel responsible for his mother's well being and safety. He truly wants her to have a life of her own and a sense of freedom and independence but it's still hard to "let go" especially now as she is planning on "moving out" of his house.
When Seth appears at his doorstep after his mother invited him for dinner he is surprised. Especially because he has actually met the guy before at his friends' house (Dane's brother in law). It's easy to see what his mother found in Seth. He is simply ADORABLE. Though it's not something he remembers ever feeling towards a guy before... He can admit to himself at times he HAD found some men attractive, yet he has never acted on his attraction. It was too easy to enjoy Seth's company as a good friends not only to his mom but to him as well.
Seth is VERY attracted to Jake, but it still takes them a while to admit their feelings to one another. While Seth is out his first encounter with a guy left him traumatized. He WANTS to act on his desires, but after what he went through he finds it hard to trust. It doesn't take him long to realize if there is a person he CAN trust (except his best friend Jesse) it's Jake and since it's all new to Jake as well, they have the time to experiment and explore each other with no pressure. That's exactly what both men needed in the physical sense, but also emotionally. Getting closer, talking about their lives and their past. Building a true foundation of trust. One that allows both of them to try things they have never done before.
Both men have their issues to deal with. But together they give each other the strength to believe in themselves. It was beautiful seeing the positive effect both men had on each other. Seth becoming more independent and Jake learning to trust and letting go - of his need to protect the people he loves but also be able to show his own vulnerabilities. It was baby steps for both of them. Yet every move, every moment between them was SUCH a joy to read. Even the more difficult conversations they shared, there was something about THEM together, that melted my heart.
I truly can't recommend this book enough. It was sweet and tender. It was emotional yet not overly angsty. It was sad but more than that it was hopeful. I truly couldn't have asked for more. Christina and Riley DEFINITELY did it again! Can't wait for Skylar's book!

Seth's a superb character; adorable and lovable, yet totally wounded. However, he fully comes alive when performing. He's a breathe of fresh air with his makeup, and his motivation to work at the nursing home. He's certainly a complex character who's rich but lonely. As his past is unveiled, the reader learns of his motivations, his desire to be strong, and his strength in the end. His relationship with his mother is certainly painful, and has been a leading factor in who he is. As for his loneliness and his fear of being touched, cue the heart-breaking emotions.
Through Seth's friendship with Bonnie, who is delightful, Seth meets her son Jake. Jake's a mechanic who's locked away his bisexual side. I enjoy the way he gravitates towards the cute Seth. It's all easy and natural, with attraction and want added in. As for Bonnie, she's a delight in general and her relationship with Seth is totally feel-good.
I love these men together. They each come with some baggage, but together they help one another, complimenting each other perfectly. Jake's coming out as bisexual, and exploring sex with a man for the first time is wonderfully explored. As well, Seth is a virgin, doubling the first time fun.
Written in alternating 1st person pov, the characters fully come alive, with their emotions on their sleeves. This author combo is superb, gifting us complex characters and a heartfelt storyline.
If you love hurt/comfort romances, you will love Pretty Sweet. I love this series and hope these authors continue this for a while.

I needed this book. The story, the characters, the events, the two man-virgins, sexual discovery, and more--I needed it all. One of my friends just lost a young family member and I needed escape. Is that why this is at least four stars bordering on five? IDK. But I do know that Seth was so sweet and grew into his own as this book unfolded.Fear is paralyzing and Seth lived in a world of being afraid to spread his wings and only doing what his mother wanted for him. She was a bit harsh but we need characters like her to provide contrast so I didn't dwell on her. Jake, on the other hand, is so used to caregiving and protecting those he loves, especially his mother, that it was inevitable that these two polar opposites would be attracted to each other. Jake is discovering that he may be attracted to men, or at least Seth, who is a virgin, so their moments of sexual intimacy were smoking hot. And sweet.
Both progressed through their fears, changed and grew--in their own strengths and together. If you are looking for low angst, nice characters, and a fast track to love, this is "pretty sweet."

The name of this book definitely makes it justice. Pretty sweet is what these guys were. Jake was so thoughtful and patient, but also protective and just a sweetheart. Watching Seth grow and gain confidence during this book was amazing, I felt so happy and proud of him, I absolutely adored it.

This is a definite feel-good, low-angst, sexy MUST READ! Loved it!
This was cute - but I wasn't fully engaged in the story. Why did Seth need a man for the light to switch on and him to suddenly decide to take control of his life? It was odd and artificial - and I didn't get that evolution I guess.
I wasn't a fan of the forced angst at the end, and the 180 in the personality of his heavily controlling mother.
I jumped in at book 2 so maybe this makes more sense if you start at 1 - but I don't think I'll bother
He's so freaking adorable. What a wonderful, heart filled story about all things family. Sometimes we need to be called out, even when we do things we think are right in the name of love.
Well, this book was just that... Pretty Sweet.
Where Book 1 was hot hot hot, this one was romantic, swooney and just perfect. I loved the evolution of both characters, particularly Seth who just deserves the best. His past and his relationship with his family made him the shy, insecure guy who he is right now, although underneath that shell there's a strong and self suficient guy just waiting to come out at the right time.
Simply beautiful.
